A Proxmox Partner That Manages the Whole Environment, Not Just the Platform

Next Step is an Authorised Proxmox reseller, helping Australian businesses assess, migrate to, and manage virtualisation environments built on Proxmox - whatever brought you to this decision, and whatever you're currently running.

Why businesses end up talking to us about Proxmox

There’s Usually a Specific Problem Behind the Question

Businesses come to this conversation from a few different directions: a licensing renewal that no longer makes commercial sense, a hardware refresh that raises the question of what to replace it with, a hypervisor decision that needs to get made properly the first time, or a Proxmox environment that’s already running but was never properly architected.
Whichever one applies, most MSPs lead with a product or a refresh. Next Step leads with an assessment and a recommendation. Proxmox is the platform we most commonly recommend for Australian SMBs and mid-market businesses — but we’ve earned the right to say that by leading with advice, not a pitch.

Our recent piece, Why More Australian SMBs Are Quietly Moving Off VMware, covers what changed with Broadcom’s acquisition and the numbers worth knowing before a renewal. Structured so an owner or CFO can jump straight to the figures, and an IT manager can jump straight to the technical detail.

What We Cover

From first migration to day-to-day management, this is the full scope of what's included:

Proxmox Virtual Environment (Proxmox VE)

The core virtualisation platform — one console for every virtual machine and container you run.

VMware Import

A built-in import wizard brings existing VMware virtual machines across without rebuilding them from scratch.

Proxmox Backup Server

Incremental, deduplicated backup built for fast recovery, not just storage.

Proxmox Datacenter Manager

One point of oversight across every site, once you're running more than one.

High Availability Clustering

No single point of failure, and no separate management server to buy and maintain.

Software-Defined Storage

Ceph and ZFS support built in, without a separate storage licence.

Migration Planning & Roadmap

A staged plan for what moves and when, agreed before anything changes.

Ongoing Management & Support

Monitored and supported as part of your standard care plan — not handed back to you once it's running.

How We Approach a Proxmox Environment

Assess

your current environment, whatever it's running today, and what's actually driving the decision.

Migrate or build

a staged plan, whether that's moving existing workloads across or standing up a new environment properly from the start.

Manage

supported under the same agreement as the rest of your IT, so it stays off your list of things to worry about.

Pricing transparency

Scoped to What You're Actually Running, Not a Guess

Every incident is logged, prioritised and worked to a committed target, not a best guess.

Thirty Years Deep

Next Step has been doing this since 1994. The platforms have changed. The commitment to getting it right hasn't.

FAQs

Is open-source virtualisation actually reliable for business use?

Proxmox has been developed and commercially supported for more than 20 years. Paid subscriptions back that with a stable Enterprise Repository, tested updates, and direct technical support — Next Step adds Level 1 and Level 2 support on top as your day-to-day point of contact.

We're currently on VMware — is migration disruptive?

Proxmox includes a built-in VMware import wizard, and migrations are staged rather than a single cutover event. Nothing moves in one high-risk weekend.

We're evaluating hypervisors and haven't decided on anything yet — can you help before we commit?

Yes. An assessment doesn't assume the answer is Proxmox — it's the most common recommendation we make for Australian SMBs, but the recommendation comes from your environment, not the other way around.

We're already running Proxmox but built it ourselves — can you take it over?

Yes. A Proxmox environment that isn't properly architected carries real risk regardless of the platform. We assess existing deployments for security, resilience, and backup configuration before taking on ongoing management.

Do we need new hardware to run Proxmox?

Not necessarily. Existing hardware can often be reused — that gets confirmed during assessment, not assumed either way.

What does "Authorised Reseller" actually mean for us as a client?

It means Next Step is a Proxmox-certified partner with direct access to Proxmox's support channels and subscription tiers, on top of our own managed IT support — not a reseller relationship that stops once the software's installed.
